real contemporary art:
but I guess Charles Saatchi wouldn't buy it so it doesn't count.
graffitti is graffitti, not art. and btw thats not very contemporary either
well graffiti is graffiti, that's only because of the view society and the law takes of it. in many countries apart from ours the distinction between the two is miniscule. but whatever, it's the only artform going that is remotely real or genuine for me. risking your freedom and life to express yourself makes it a hell of a lot more potent statement, and it's a much better expression of identity without being exclusionist, over-intellectualised or stuck in safe pretentious art school values that protect the untalented.
100 years ago I'd have a lot more respect for the established art world as what was produced was actually good and involved talent.
and 1998 is the contemporary age in terms of art history.
