Re: Can I get refunded for records lost in the mail?

this story is like murphys law:
i sold a ambient CD at discogs. the seller paid for registered shipping.
i had no time to go to the post office and gave the package my mother - and she forgot to tell the postman that she wants registered sending.
as i recognized that i immediately gave the buyer a refund of 2 euros for the registered shipping price he paid.
now he wrote me that so far the sending did not arrive - i think its stolen, because from germany to amsterdam longer then 7 days?
(i hope he will not try to make a cheat with my fault)...
crazy:  first time no registration, and the package gets lost...

Re: Can I get refunded for records lost in the mail?

not sure about germania -> hollandia but i have stuff shipped unregistered all the time. most of the time without any problem. if he still claims it's not arrived in another week or so i'd suspect him trying to screw you. i mean how likely is a cd in the mail of getting stolen? same with records. the vast majority is not worth the hassle of stealing.

Re: Can I get refunded for records lost in the mail?

maybe you are right. but in this case i packed the CD in a large box. maybe this was more atractive to thiefs as the normal cd-box?

Re: Can I get refunded for records lost in the mail?

I was going to tell you Tech - when buying records from a french guy and getting them shipped to Sweden 2-3 months is not unusual.

It has happened to me on more then one occasion.
If it has taken more than 3 months then you should begin to worry, "only" 2 months is no big deal.

(although I really wonder how it's possible. I mean: I could go from Sweden to France by bike, pick up the records and return by bike in that time...what are they doing with the packages?)
Shipping anything anywhere within Sweden is never more than about 3 days maximum, so I guess it's the french post that's kinda slow, no?
Or is it just because more than one country's involved?
Free movement of goods in the EU - hooray smile

If the goods are expensive I normally select registered shipping.
But my friend, who has bought much more (and far more expensive) records from ebay always says:
"No, don't use registered shipping. The risk is much higher for registered packages to disappear. It's just more expensive and not more reliable."

I disagree but I guess we have had different experiences in the past.

Re: Can I get refunded for records lost in the mail?

my last story is getting stranger and stranger:

now the buyer sended me a mail: the package arrived after 12 days.

but inside was only the empty CD-Case - without the CD!!!

normally i am packing the Original CD-Case seperate with the CD to avoid damages
- the CD i put always in an additional empty Jewel-Case
- and this additional  jewel-case with the CD was not in the package anymore...

the buyer told me that the brown tape was at one side removed and replaced with a black piece of tape ...

but wtf?

why somebody should opening the package, taking out ONLY the CD without the box, sealing the package again and giving it back to the post way?

we will never found out what happened i am afraid ....

Re: Can I get refunded for records lost in the mail?

@Galliano: After living a year in Paris, I have come to the conclusion that the french postal service are complete cretins incapable of following the most basic instructions, so I shouldn't be so surprised it took a while. I'm glad it finally did arrive though, they've lost my packages on several occasions before.
