Aaagh, I should get my PS3 fixed so it can read blu rays again, so I can get online and play some CoD WaW with you guys, but it'll take at least six weeks and I gotta post it, find a carton box,...
Anywayz, I'm looking forward to playin' CoD: Modern Warfare 2 later this year. The robots will reign!
question, what size stand alone hardrive would I need to backup my 40gb ps3 so as I can save, upgrade the ps3 to 320gb and then reboot all my saved bits??

(although @500gb bigger than mine, which is a 320gb - but an excellent deal)
Fitting it is easy as fook, just unscrew the panel on the side, unscrew the little screws that attatch the HD to the mount, mount your new drive, and screw everything back in.
I backed up all my stuff on an external HD first (you have to name the folder in a way that the PS3 recognises, do a web search for that and it saved all my games, trophies etc)
"The PS3 has a built-in software backup utility that can copy the PS3's hard drive contents to an external storage device, such as a USB thumb drive or a Memory Stick. The removable storage device must use the FAT32 file system in order for the PS3 to recognize it. If you have an external hard drive that's formatted in NTFS, you can use the Disk Management utility in Windows to reformat the drive, but you'll need to create partitions on large external hard drives because Windows can do only FAT32 on drives 32GB or smaller"
Most drives should be in correct FAT 32 format anyway. A large memory stick could do the job. Dont bother with partitioning, its a pain in the R's.
Once the PS3 boots up again the system will guide you through the steps to install the firmware to the new drive
This description makes it sound a lot tougher than it actually is.
There are Youtube tutorials on it - search !
It took me a couple of mins to fit, and an hour or so to have a fully functioning 320Gb PS3.

doing this upgrade is proving to be a right royal pain in the arse, damn you NTFS and FAT32...
just to let you know, I finally managed to work out what I was doing re. this ole upgrade malarky. I now have 320gb hdd instead of 40gb, proper big willy styles

I bought myself a new one since Sony couldn't tell when I would get a fixed one (it would take at least more than six weeks, but how much longer they couldn't tell, the were "out of stock" for the 60GIGs).
BF 1943 is well worth the purchase (hell, even Edge gave it a 9/10). Only three maps (soon a free fourth one), but they're all great, and everything you need in an online FPS for a very small price.

I bought it last night, tried to join yours and another friends game but EA kept logging me out. I guess the server was super busy. Will try again later tonight..
