they want turntable action, northern soul, 80s, james bond, disco. normally spend half the time trying to work out who to leave in charge of the decks when you have to go for a piss!

you can take the temptations' 'papa was a rolling stone' (11'45) with you for that.

edit: don't forget to bring some tunes for the old people, depending on the demographic beach boys or fats domino will maybe do.

learnt a few things from that gig.

dancefloor filler of the night - Chaka Khan - 'Ain't Nobody'

bridesmaids were too young but plenty of semi-milfs bumping about the place.

Re: Wedding DJing

Re: Wedding DJing

here we have a " wedding moderator " ...the mic guy...who's coordonating all action there...( sometimes they can be so hilarious )
here the bride is stolen...by the unmarried men
and weddings took place even in the streets

Re: Wedding DJing

aww man I missed this one!

for my city and surrounding areas the line dance music is always the burner shit!
ex. the bunny hop(new orleans rap song)
the freeze  (classic rock favorite)
brown eyed girl - van morrison
cha cha slide
the cupid shuffle

vanilla ice; anything uptempo from the thriller album; kc and sunshine band; 80s pop r&b stuff; bell biv devoe - do me or poison; some country like brooks and dunn/ david allen coe;

I would just bring all the stuff I wouldnt play anywhere else. It helps to bring a laptop with big hard drive so you can do request.

One time me and my boy did it at a place that had wifi and we were able to just download stuff that people wanted!

that was a fucking blast because it felt like everbody was dancing the whole time. As long as the brides family and friends are dancing your made!

Re: Wedding DJing

i do this kind of job pretty often.
it depends of course from the age of the guests.
normally some 80ies and 70ies CD compilations will please all guests.
dont forget some indie / rock hits for the time when all male guests are drunken
this are must haves:

SMELLS LIKE TEEN SPIRIT / nirvana
PRETTY FLY / offspring
TNT / acdc
TWO PRINCESS / spin doctors
WANNA BE MY GIRL / jet

dont forget these artists:

FATBOY SLIM / PRODIGY / CHEMICAL BROS / JAMIROQUAI

dont forget some house classics:

DEE LITE / SAHOME DI BAHIA / FINALLY / LADY / MOVIN ON UP

these oldschool tunes are always a good idea:

COPA COPANA / ITS NOT UNUSUAL (tom jones) / TEQUILA (not the bo boss version) / LETS TWIST AGAIN / STAND BY ME

ask for more if you like

I'm getting married 18 July this summer ... i've asked some guys who generally play allround (quality) stuff (e.g. Gaye, Mayfield, Wonder, Ayers, Beach Boys, Prince, Parliament, Lidell, Wu Tang, etc...) and after that I will improvise with one or two friends and take things to the next level tongue

Re: Wedding DJing

nah mate, they would've hated you. weren't after that at all.

as i said: it all depends on the audience...

i dont know which crowd you are expecting to this wedding.

i can only speak from my experience - i am doing such events and many commercial events for company dates / office parties for years now ... sometimes for more or less big money ...

and at the end most of these dates are all the same ...

i hate soccer

Re: Wedding DJing

one thing i forgot:

nowadays there are a million wannabe DJs with 10000000 itunes on a laptop.
but they dont have a glue what to play in the right moment.

thats the reason why people are still booking me for weddings big_smile

i have just  one CD map but with all important tracks wink

and when it comes to a "serious" gig i come with my records smile

i hate soccer
