Topic: Crazy reality check -- Google down in NYC

So Google is down in NYC (or at least big parts of it) right now.

It's really crazy because you don't realize how much you use / need it until it's not working. Most the sites I visit are down because they serve google ads, doubleclick ads (by google), have integrated google search...gmail, search, API's...

Tons of shit that these sites rely on.

No news of it yet or why it's happening. Maybe that conficker virus finally struck. Or maybe it's the best DDoS attack of all time.

I can only imagine the money that's being lost. Pretty sweet if you ask me.

just like last week when the biggest cable company in stockholm got a power cut due to a stroke of lightning. 800.000 pepople didnt have phone, internet or tv for like 2 hours. makes you feel rather vulnerable.

^ Weird ... I got reports of it out in South Brooklyn and Midtown (where I work) and above. I live in Greenpoint too, and didnt notice any problems when I logged in this AM.

who knows, seems to be coming back now...it was probably nothing.

But as karl said, makes you feel a bit vulnerable.

its just training compared with what will possibly happen soon. in germania one recent day over 50 % of all mobiles were useless, a few weeks ago. nothings natch.

didn't try myself, but i think it's no coincident that my brother told me an hour ago that google is not working or not working right (very slow). I think there is or was some problem, but seems to work again

yes, I remember that thing with the mobiles, in the end the provider allowed all their customers to phone and send sms for free for one whole weekend as a small excuse.. was kinda funny

well, prophet herman thinks there'll be more abstract forms of slavery than being forced to work in google's coal mines, but future isn't as static as it has, to be virtually seen by me.
we must believe in ourselves, support people and institutions we can feel, avoid dependencies of mega octopi like google but must not forget that producing peace without weapons is most likely still unrealistic.

mm but if you'd met a friend in town and you decided for a time, and your friend gonna be late.. how long would you wait for your friend? 15 minutes, 30 minutes? You wouldn't know if your friend had something coming in between and weren't able to reach you to tell you. Things were very complicated smile
