Damn, didn't even know what happend till a few minutes ago... think a lot of people in the Netherlands are now to drunk to realize why the queensdaypartys are all being canceled....
[for people who just tuned in: a guy in a car drove trought the people that were waving at the queen at queensday and tried to hit the royal family, killing 4 people in the action]

Early conclusions here about the motivation of this man seems to be he is in financial trouble, lost his job (security) and got evicted from his apartment.

It just seems really crazy that someone is able to get so close from official's circuit with a car..
In france/Italy or UK when the prez' or Queen is visiting a city they block all the city traffic in a big surrounding area with Police trucks and they place snipers everywhere. even the bystanders crowd is mostly made of selected puppets and i'm not saying this is a good thing. (i think i'm sadly getting used to live in a Police-State though)
This was in no way a criticism against a supposedly lack of "security", i guess it has more to do with the general & consensual respect Dutch people show towards their Queen whatever political side they're on, especially on that very day..am i not right? So indeed it looks to me like the act of a suicidal nutter rather than a carefully planned attack.
by the way, today is also my B'day & i've always associated it w/ the Dutch Queen's day..
so i feel a little more concerned than i should really .. and i am trully sad for the innocent bystanders killed and also for all those terrified kids who witnessed something they should have never seen on a happy day like this.
lol I was already pretty drunk bbqing when I heard the story...I'm kinda happy that i heard from other people what happened, so I don't have to "enjoy" all the pictures in the news.
