MPC1000 JJ OS 2XL is released (Page 1 of 2)

seriously, sometimes i wish i was using a 1000
just to do the upgrade

only read good things about the jjos
amazing what these guys are doing.
..or is it only one guy ?

I only use the 2000XL for midi. I only use 1000 for livesets with simple audio loops. Never used any advanced features or did any audio editing. Well only somtimes I sample on the 2KXL for making a hiphop beat. I have bought all JJ versions  when they came out but never used my 1000 anymore.
I think I will use the JJ os on my first liveset in 2009. I did not use it before because the track mute colors were inverted from Akai. In the latest JJ os you can invert the color so that I cannot make mistakes.

I also have to find out if I can use features of the JJ os during a liveset. Hooking up a midi keyboard and use the chord/arpeggiator/note repeat for example. Also handy are the two sliders which can be assigned to any midi CC.

I really like to use the mute screen on the mpc instead of doing it on the mixer. I only use the mixer mutes (well actually I just put the slider up/down since the mute has a click sound) for the drummachines and synthesizers and if I incidentally start a wrong loop on the mpc and don't want to wait until it ends.

In the lastest os you can also use volume mutes, so that can make you very creative on melodies, etc. You know like pressing it to just mute a couple of notes. This gives you a lot of extra live possibilities.
And also stopping wrong samples on the fly.
I't like midi mute/unmute but then with audio. Excellent!

Btw the JJ os and the lastest Akai os (released couple of monthe ago since years of no updates) allow you to record track mutes. So you could jam on your mute screen to build a song and record those mute/unmutes. A pitty that if you work in one sequence and not in songmode you have to make the sequence as long as you think your jam will last. And also have to copy your for example 2 bars long loop like 100 times(offcourse that is just a small handeling) to be sure it loops the whole sequence. But then it should work. Never tried it.

how is the grid edit?  i'm still using OS1 and was kind of underwhelmed with the grid edit.. i guess nothing compares to true x0x style.  the new chord feature looks pretty awesome though

It seems quite buggy and some features has also been removed.
People are also complaning about os2 project-files wich can't be opened in 2xl.
But I'm willing to sacrifice a lot for that new apeggiator/chord feature.

SWING (SWNG) and SHIFT (SHFT) are displayed.

It is not effective against the recorded event. (It is not reflected on real time.)
It is due to enable it to be reflected also in the event recorded in the future on real time.

After installing OS2XL, a default setup is strange when it changes to OS1.
Since it is not a bug of OS1, a change of a version is not made.

Sander , you seem like the person that knows what version of the 1000 i should look for
if i don't want the pads that break down in time.
Just all the black ones or only some newest version of the black one ?
Or doesn't the colour matter at all ?
