Robots for Robots → Random media → Adobe CS4
Anyone have a personal review of this yet? I am clueless about it and would like a robot's opinion (Communicator?).
some questions:
-anything of worth updated in photoshop?
-is it FLASH 10 now? with the C++ compiler?
haven't tried yet (just getting accustomed to CS3) but a little crature in the back of my head keeps on telling me that CS4 primarily introduces, above anything else, even more bloat. besides, adobe is the new microsoft and desperately need more competition.

there are few application that can't replace photoshop, but not of them powerful as PS (light box for example)
as for Indesign and Illustrator i don't know any replacement, what else, is that they became a standard, i don't know designers that using something else beside indesgin, for books or massive text design jobs.
that's exactly the problem. indesign can be easily replaced by quark xpress though. 10 years ago i would never have dreamed of wishing quark well, now i'm at the point where i really hope they gained back their former market strength. back in 99 i welcomed the introduction of indesign because at that point quark was even more ignorant of their customer base than adobe is today. adobe has managed to go the quark/microsoft way since then probably because of their success. if anything, the market strength of microsoft teaches us that quality is not key to success. same goes for adobe it seems.
i don't question the functionality they provide in products such as photoshop, which is outstanding. what i do question is if they really need to release a new version every 1.5 years, introducing new functions which are of little value to a lot of users, without fixing existing issues and bugs. also, efficient use of computer resources doesn't seem to be en vogue anymore these days.
don't know about photoshop CS4, but CS3 was a great step forward, so normally CS4 won't be that important... Upgrade is necessary every 2 versions...
I still use quark xpress, and I do massive text design jobs

'cause it's the best all in one tool for multi-page design jobs with large vector data..
but i'm very looking forward to CS4, it will be a great step for illustrator because
it will support multiple pages and allow to work with vector data in a way indesign couldn't..

i'm agree with you, although i never used quark, it seems more complicated then indesign

freehand have some features that works different in illustrator (or not excite). and sure, the multi page thing is important
but i'll wait little longer before i'll jump to CS4

i found it really hard to learn how quark worked cause i was taught on adobe products and InDesign just follows the same shortcuts and methods that Illustrator and Photoshop use.
we just got CS4 here at work but i haven't used it yet. waiting for new projects before switching. i was sent these links to videos about all the new stuff...

thanks for the fastlinks. browsing through the *FLASH* sameshittutorialvideos i noticed a couple of features like 3D planes (which are surely nothing compared to PV3D), couple of visualizer presets for tweening some animations (that are in cs3 and i dont even bother using them since most people already have the examples coded since 1999), and also some internet networking/project sharing stuff which is probably very useful for team work..or something.
multiple pages in illustrator sounds very nice though, but i have a feeling they gimped it just enough so you will still need indesign

no prob for the links.. i felt the same way when i watched them. the illustrator multi page being the coolest new feature. the flash interface took me some getting used to..

good point, i'm also sure they will do.
the selection of object under multiple others in indesign and illustrator is pure horror compared to freehand,
i assume we still have to be bomb experts in CS 4 to select items or change pathes etc.
Also the masks instead of pasting inside are nonsense imo
finally a canvas rotation feature in PS. now i can paint those quasi- straight lines much easier.

Seems ok, nice and handy. I do some parallax panorama work so this is very welcome.
NOTE TO ANYONE GETTING CS4: the Installer/Uninstaller and Autoupdater are all mega fnurked..so take caution before you dare to install and read up on the forums.
Also anyone actually running vista (64bit i would hope, otherwise whats the point) - turn off "enable desktop composition" - whatever it does, it fnurks up CS4 so badly its a slideshow. The option is in the computer -> system properties -> advanced system properties -> performance settings..phew
