banksy is a joke. even just on this one page both Dongwook Lee and Olle Hemmendorff's burger when put next to banksy's make his look extremely boring and tired.
I bet he makes a nice living from it though

Banksy's strength is the street art and subversive works. His more "fine" art tends to blend in with current trendy artists.

except theyre not very subversive they're obvious. and its not street art it's grafitti. he doesn't make any fine art. imo
hehe sorry 'banksy' just really rubs me up the wrong way.
edit2. i guess i find the attention he gets moe interesting than any work he has or ever will make. i often find myself in a discussion about his work one way or the other. but seriously, the mercedes badge and nike swoosh dong wook lee made that you can see above take the piss out of banksy, and he could have conceivably come up with those works himself i think. theyre not that far from what he makes, but they are many times more sophisticated than anything banksy can do.

His work works. He gets his message across in a digestible way, I think that's why so many people can connect, and the reason why collectors are lining up for his stuff.

people lap up boring stuff, we all know that. people queing up to buy it doesnt mean shit. just because it works though, it doesnt make it art. theyre just little jokes, quite adolescent too, its all fuck the man, fuck the police, fuck george bush cartoon illuistrations. or is there more to his work than that?

you are right he's quite boring now and sometimes i just feel i should sell every work i've got. he was really best imo around 2003-ish...
still you have to give him that he's one of the smartest of all time when it comes to put forward a political message. simple images that works, humour etc which you need to do street art.
i also like that no one is safe from him he goes after everyone with his art, even himself.
also I hate that lazarides gallery on greek street that have gone posh, i was there a couple of years ago. they didn't want me there i could tell as they started talking about other galleries that i should go to instead the very second i stept inside the door. guess i didn't look hip/rich enough. funny thing i probably owned more banksy's than any of the other visitors who were there.
so yeah banksy sold out years ago. but so did Warhol and especially Dali. guess banksy wants his name next to theirs in the art history books...
