yeah wtf i dont get it when people say "not exactly altered states".. he has done so much stuff after that, weird to say it isn't banging.
I wrote this review for discogs.com release page a few weeks after it was released.
Although Altered States, The Choice, Morning Factory and many other of his tracks are undeniable house classics, calling Ron Trent a house music artist wouldn't do him justice. He has been producing a lot more music over the past two decades that wasn't exactly house music. His Batidos project with latin saxophonist Jay Rodriguez already saw him crossing over to a jazz and latin leaning style of producing, with a steady housebeat only supporting the pulse of just a few tracks. 2008's Cinematic Travels was a downtempo album that featured a lot of jazzy elements and improvisation. Dance Floor Boogie Delites showed Trent in full on 80s disco boogie modus. On his latest album with new project Warm however, he incorporates all of these influences in one impeccably produced album, collaborating with guest musicians like Azymuth, Kruangbin and Jean Luc Ponty. Although the production is undeniably very slick and spacious, there is a lot to be heard and listened to here. So much musicality, so many subtle sounds and details. For me this is top notch contemporary jazz fusion.. If this is "elevator music", please let me know where to find the building that uses it, I could be going up and down for days. Strong suspicion this will be amongst my top 10 albums of this year. Incredible album. Apparently Warm is going to be a touring live band as well. Will most def be checking them out if they are playing somewhere around my parts!
