808 DIY clone "Yocto"

WOW!

Am I crazy or was this extremely long overdue, right? Maybe like 15 years at least.

Hopefully I can find more videos/demos of it in action to confirm how awesome this appears to be before getting in way over my head - for 2 months -  with the soldering kit and multimeter etc., not to mention a housing that looks so great as this one.

So it is basically the tr808 equivalent of Adafruit's x0xb0x (tb303)... essentially the same build and parts I assume.?

Just glad I didn't buy the Roland AIRA... as I was so close.

Actually the new case looks much better than the old one. It would be cool if you could record a sound sample, because I think I heard one a while ago and the clap sounded miserable. But maybe they improved on that.

How big is it by the way? It looks smaller than the original 808 (which I would not mind)

The clap cirquit was changed before the final release version. All the instruments sound really good at least to my ear.
I never owned an original 808 but from the recordings I know I cannot hear any difference.
I had a Miami though and the Yocto blows the Miami out of the water.

P.S. Actually almost a year ago I couldn't solder at all and i had mine made by an experienced builder. I helped him getting the sounds right and spotting mistakes.
All in all it was a bit more expensive than a Miami but still way cheaper than an original 808 nowadays.

Is this a project suitable for a beginner? I've never did any project like this. Did some soldering in the past but very little experience tbh.
