Topic: strange juno 106 problem

my 106 is acting up and i can't quite isolate the problem. i'm assuming its got to do with dying/dead voice chips, but....

when i play multiple keys at a time, especially with the suboscillator up, i get a lot of crackling/static noise (although this tends to go away after its been on for 30 minutes or longer). there is also sometimes a faint hum when i turn it on before i've played a note. yet when i start up in test mode so that i can isolate the problem voice, i get no hum, no static or crackling noises and it seems just fine. so if it is a voice chip issue, which i am assuming it is, i can't isolate which voice(s) are problematic and need replacement. i know i should just replace them all but i don't have the money. any advice? thanks in advance !

Re: strange juno 106 problem

Is there also a problem when the chorus is off??? Could also be the vca....

Re: strange juno 106 problem

My first thoughts was also the chorus. Also, you can repair the voice chips by using acetone, there's a video on youtube, seems to work fine...

Re: strange juno 106 problem

yeah of fuckin course when i start it up just now everything is fine and none of the problems its been giving me arise. but i have played it with the chorus on and off and have noticed that with chorus on i get more static but the hum is present for both chorus/off. and on test mode it doesn't make a difference, it plays perfectly. whatever is going on is certainly trying to drive me crazy.

i'll check out that vid mekonin, thanks for the heads up

Re: strange juno 106 problem

Late reply, I know, but still...

Isn't it possible that the hum comes from a ground loop? The Juno isn't connected to the ground but maybe your mixer is and thus the juno feeds to it through the audio cable. You can verify that by lifting your mixer, ie connecting it to an outlet which has no ground or connect a headphone to the juno and check whether you hear a hum there.

About the static, I have the same problem with mine and it is due to a scratchy volume pot (not the amp slider but the volume pot on the left). I should replace it but for now, twiddling it a few times solves the problem which is fine for me.

Just record it already!
