Topic: Tree Planting

Has anyone here ever been tree planting?

The potential to make a lot of money is insane!

I went in northern British Columbia and planted for half a season. (about 1 1/2 months)

If you are a very good planter you can make $300+ CAN a day, and even more. It works out to about $15,000 - $20,000 in 3 months if you are insane.  I was not so good, but still had fun. And learned a lot. One day I planted 2000 trees @ 15 cents a tree and made 300 bucks. It was my best day.  I heard of people making $24,000 in one season. (about 3 months = 60 planting days(ish))

I listened to disco mixes the entire time. CBS/R4R helped me pull through!  I would say it was directly responsible for my enjoyment on the block.

I might go back next year.  ^_^

Here are some pictures:

This is the land we were planting one day, we were getting 13 cents per tree on this land.

A nice shot of the mountains on a burn plant. (They make a huge pile of the "slash" and then burn it. Most times long after it has been planted. We came in and planted the burn piles afterwards)

Re: Tree Planting

No school needed, just pure endurance!

I planted 520 trees my first day, it's really easy to learn. You just have to find a foreman on a company that will take you in, and most are happy if you say you will stay the entire season and not quit. (a lot of people quit halfway through because they can not handle it.)

http://www.replant.ca/phpBB3/

has a ton of info on planting.

Just have to space them correctly, there has to be 7 trees in an 8 meter diameter circle anywhere on your piece.

It's very long hours and hard work (bending over thousands of times a day, climbing over fallen trees and huge slash piles) , but very beautiful landscapes and quite an experience.

In the early morning I would throw on Pacific Northwest Sasquatch Research. It fit perfectly!

Re: Tree Planting

Good for you!  I never had the courage to do this myself (not much of camper), but I have a few friends who did many seasons of planting out in B.C. and in northern Manitoba.  All of them consider it a life-changing experience.

My ears are never silence.  How more quiet it is, how louder I hear my ears.

Re: Tree Planting

Hmm ... are there any tree-planting student programs? If yes I would have a nice choice between planting in Canada or being a volunteer in Icelandic National Parks ... hehe

Software is mind control.

Re: Tree Planting

It looks like nice surroundings, but isnt 300 $ for planting 2000 trees a bit of a rip off? Especially if we are talking canadian dollars...Id have to be paid a lot more to do that kinda work, but i realize that living expenditures might vary a lot...but its hard to believe many dutch robots would find that to be a reasonable salary either

Re: Tree Planting

Sounds like you enjoyed it.

I planted 4000 trees together with my father, but since we own parts of that forest, I did not get any pay... It was 4-5 years ago, I think only 2-3 trees have survived to this date, the deers had them for dinner. Way to much of them in that area.

Btw, "Mountains"? big_smile

Sorry, just had to. Worked at the tourist info in the summer. Bragging besides, I know Canada has some wonderful landscapes. Want to go there someday for skiing with music in my ears and sit down and enjoy the view while smoking pot. wink
