Topic: Why a Serge modular?

Ok why i start this topic?
Because people always complain that Serge stuff is to expensive compared to other brands witch i won't name
I must admit that it maybe could have been a bit cheaper perhaps but this is solid rock synth stuff.
First example:

The Serge DTG

This module is listed as $480.00 on the old price list.
And people just see a simple AR envelope generator.
So here just a little example of only the DTG.
More will come tomorrow smile

sorry, but it all sucks hard.
480 dollars for some fuckin bleeps is waste of money, could do same(better) with free vst.

A very useful opinion as always.

Re: Why a Serge modular?

I can't criticise a modular...

You gotta hear it once it's finished, Bias. I used to spend hours twiddling on my mate's custom-built Fenix, then sample + chop it into an Akai. It takes a lot of patience, but the results are stunning!

Re: Why a Serge modular?

I wanted to use in each patch just one Serge M-odule (half panel)
To give an idea how it can sound because some modules just look like envelope generators only.

Special for Bias a noodle without vcos just Slope Generators going crazy.
And a sequrencer vca vcf and wavemultiplier.

Re: Why a Serge modular?

Looks like either cebteq or BMX have started an alter-ego here... lol

Re: Why a Serge modular?

Say mono-poly, what other components apart from the DTG and the DUSG do you intend to arm your modular with?
I'd love to see a pictorial work in progress as you go along...

Re: Why a Serge modular?

I basicly use everything when i patch up.
I really love the wavemultiplier module.

In the DTG patch is just have them cycling at vco rate.
And let them crossmodulate each other and turn some knobs
This gives the some interesting fm/ringmod kinda sounds.
But sometimes i use them as a trigger delay or chain them for complex envelope generators or complex lfo's.

I willl bring the Serge with me to the "new thing" in Rotterdam 21st off September.
Maybe i can show some things there.

this is beautiful

Re: Why a Serge modular?

you could probably build a 'DTG' with $4.8.. so these modules are seriously overpriced.

Monkey see, monkey do.

Re: Why a Serge modular?

I nearly peed my pants. Someone just listed a Serge case and power supply "Buy it Now" on Ebay for $499 US but you had to open the auction to make sure it was just the case and PSU. I saw it 2 minutes after it was listed and I nearly passed out as the picture was of a full rack and thought someone didnt know what it was worth. Modular gear is in my future but I don't have the cash to start a Serge system that's for sure.

Bow to your electron god.

is that one yours?

Re: Why a Serge modular?

I can totaly see the reason to get a Serge.
Right now I'm so hooked on the esoteric modules in the modular world -
And serge is a great place to go look for that stuff.  (Oh, it's a envelope generator that doubles as a oscillator and a lowpass filter.. hm, I could use that!) wink
