It's the news nobody whatsoever has been waiting for. After several months of sleeping in shop doorways and relying entirely on the kindness of strangers, TOTHEBONE has a new home. And it's in London's east London's up 'n' coming Dalston. At this rate, the party that started in Brixton a little over 4 years ago will be in Stratford in time for the Olympics. But you don't have to wait until 2012 to witness elite athletes at the very top of their game - our first party is on Saturday 26 July. And every last Saturday of the month from then on.
As the new venue's a more intimate party space we'll be broadening the music policy a bit. In fact it'll be more like the monthly radio shows we've been doing that literally some of you have been listening to (www.ttbradio.co.uk). Except that there'll also be professional DJs playing records. And there won't be as many inappropriate jokes. And no-one will be naked. In fact it won't be like the radio shows at all. Other than the fact that we'll be playing disco records early on and house and techno when the 'floor fills up.
We've had guest DJs from all over the shop. Rotterdam, Hamburg, Detroit, Berlin...but never Birmingham. Until now. Like UB40, Ocean Colour Scene, and less acclaimed musical luminaries, Mark E hails from the UK's second largest city. He's been releasing records for the last 3 years but cemented his arrival with last year's Janet Jackson-sampling mid-tempo banger, R + B Drunkie, which sold by the bucketload. Mark's latest release, Slave 1, the second 12" he's released on Germany's Running Back label, is also very strong. But if you've been listening to our radio show, you knew that already.
To mark our move to Bar 512 - with it's lovely, big wooden dancefloor - Mark will play for 2.5 hours. Expect to hear a few of his sought-after edits and as yet unreleased goodies. Residents Rik & Charlie take care of warm-up and happy finish duties respectively.
