Akira Yamaoka. His work is insanely great, especially SH2. I think he did much of the sound FX too,  not just the music, at least for the first two games.

I seriously think Super Mario World on the snes has the best soundtrack ever.  More Nintendo favs are Zelda Windwaker, Animal Crossing (KK Technopop!) and Okami.

Diablo tristram song is great! Torchlight has the same guy doing music there too, quite good.

I really like Rob Hubbard and David Whittaker of course.

Homeworld 1/Cataclysm/2 OST by Paul Ruskay - who has done quite a lot of OSTs and all have really nice ethnic elements and spaced out ambience that feels very thick. Same goes for the Fallout 1 and 2 soundtracks, very well crafted and copy the Selected Ambient Works Vol2 a bit, without infringing.

Today I stumbled upon an OST for a Halflife 2 mod, Neotokyo. Don't have a full opinion yet, but HOLY SHIT. This is a masterpiece.

Goldeneye just had such a killer soundtrack!!!
Brian is kinda right though, the first mario on snes is hard to beat.

Oh god and I'm a big sucka for the final fantasy 7 soundtrack. Such beauty, as nerdy as the whole hype around the game may be.

Also the music during the cyberspace run in system shock 1 is damn excellent - but I can't find a video where it sounds as it did on my computer.

very scary. that music adds a david lynchy-atmosphere to it.
