How's the Tetra ?

Re: New COCKpits & GearPics

How's the Tetra ?

A little monster to me, with that 4 voices poly and all the intelligent possibilities : 4 differents programs played at the same time, or 4 different midi channel (like 4 monosynth in the same box), nice analogue sound, can be warm, spacy, tons of possibilities with virtual patching or inside sequencer (kind of custom arpegio with 4 params of your choice)  , in a pretty small box. I like it very much, it's an intelligent synth.

The boring things are : not easy to handle, requires an editor and since the firmware is unfinished, some stuff is hard to access.

Re: New COCKpits & GearPics

nice ... i see you use renoise, how's that are you tracker man?

Re: New COCKpits & GearPics

hehe marco im not sure to understand your question .. i'll say that I love trackers since fast tracker 2, and renoise is great, especially with samples, but, it's getting more and more heavy for the computer, that's a bit sad. To play with hardware, midi and recording, ableton is ways better to me, and ways lighter for the netbook (ironicaly)

Re: New COCKpits & GearPics

punctuation fail on my part. I meant to ask How is renoise? and are you a tracker lover? I was wondering if it was easy to understand for a non-tracker background person. Sorry.

Lovely studio btw

Re: New COCKpits & GearPics

thanks, yeah, I love trackers but especially when I do music with samples, slicing breaks and stuff (as I told, since i'm using hardware, now I prefer ableton). Renoise is a pretty good modern tracker (the only one ?) and it has a lot of new stuff, being a complete music software solution, so you can use today a tracker if :  you are tired of piano roll, you love the way trackers use hexa code to make computer effects (oldschool : today, lots of VST are doing it easier) (in that case, watch examples and read the doc ..) or, you use samples and that's an amazing software to edit/cut/slice etc. To create drums like jungle, squarepusher style etc.. Anyway, using a different sequencer is always a good way to create new stuff. I think renoise is not difficult to handle in the simple features - if you use some vst etc.
I personnaly loved trackers because of the .mod (the files of your tracks) sharing (I learned music analyzing mods made by other people) and the vertical display with pattern scrolling fast. this is very visual.

here a extreme case of use the tracker to make an animation, using codes and stuff .. :

insane to create I think, but shows the possibilities :-)
check other videos of renoise to make yourself an idea, and get a try !

an other predilection software of me is jeskola buzz, mixing modular and tracker

Interesting that he changed from his dome studio to this workshop style room.  Getting to the backs of racks is a nightmare if you've got them against a wall.

Re: New COCKpits & GearPics

Something I am designing on sketchup:

http://www.danti.ch/various/keyboard_rack.png

Since I have a huge amount of leftover wood from my model train layout, I decided to build a keyboard stand for multiple
keyboards and devices.

Of course, if I did not have that leftover, getting one of those Jaspers would have been cheaper... but since I love crafting
things and I have this wood at hand, why not doing it?

this is just a preliminary sketch, although the measurements are correct. I even made some boxes with some pictures of
my devices to see how they would fit smile

Height is 2 meters, length is 1.45m and width is 0.5 meters.

My studio space is not so huge, and I currently have all the keyboards on multiple stands, plus the JP4 standing on a side tongue
With this wood rack, I will only have to use one of the aluminium keyboard stands, where I can have the JP4 with the
MS20 on top and the 808 aside of it.

Looks good but if you make the shelves fixed it might be annoying if you've judged it wrongly.  Careful with the high stuff too, if it's out of reach you'll never use it IMO.

Re: New COCKpits & GearPics

@rockmanrock
Actually the measurements and the inter-shelf distance I already measured "live" with some quickly laid wood structure,
so I already have the right heights that are ok with my size smile

For the topmost things, as you can see on the very top there is the Matrix6, for which I have a software editor, so I do not
have to put my hands over there often. I only play the stage piano as a keyboard, so I do not really care about the other keys.
The G2x and the 303 are still at a working height for me.
