Topic: Can I get refunded for records lost in the mail?

I ordered a few records from a french seller on Discogs. They were presumably sent with Priority mail, but no tracking or insurance. It's been like two months now, and still no show. I guess they are lost. Is there any instance that will cover the lost cash? Discogs? PayPal? Visa?

Re: Can I get refunded for records lost in the mail?

it's a tricky scenario. the onus rests with the seller imo. does the seller have good feedback? if so you should be able to reach an agreement together on a fair refund. if visa are involved then prepare to be dogged and persistent and maybe they will get you a refund. paypal? they simply do not care.

Re: Can I get refunded for records lost in the mail?

i have a similar scenario, but only two weeks so far, but that seems long enough to wait.
i feel for you Techn

Re: Can I get refunded for records lost in the mail?

The seller has 100% positive feedback, from 208 sales. He just offered me some discount next time I buy from him hmm

postal services can get awfully slow these days..i just got a parcel returned today, sent to spain in March 2009 (parcel returned opened and disc was broken in pieces) & i'm waiting for a Belgian one from a month ago

offering a rebate on the next is the best you will get from the seller i'm afraid.. as he obviously has nothing to do w/ a postal fuck up
paypal secures only Ebay transactions, and discogs can only ban bad sellers but never interfere in a transaction

thats not exact - paypal does refund also when you have paid outside ebay - the seller needs a provement that he has send out the items - otherwise the chances are good that paypal will refund - i had such cases already. but why the seller didi not send registered? i will always send registered only - so you never have problems. it takes some time, but german parcel will refund always the money - but maximum is about 35 or 50 euros (i forot). for more you have to choose extra insurance....

Re: Can I get refunded for records lost in the mail?

it`s always bad if records get lost in mail. sure.

you chosed non-registrated, so I would say it`s your problem now. The seller has 100 % pos. feedback, you can be sure he did everything right with the records. His offer for a discount in the next order is correct.

Dolcevita is right, paypal gives money back in any case of violation. but in yours everything is good, so it is a bit shitty now (for you). I had it once with an order from australia. had to send the records twice. It was an act of kindliness, but I would`nt do it with everybody... and if the records were old ones, maybe collectors items then it is difficult anyways.

Was it much money for you?

really? That sounds promising!

Re: Can I get refunded for records lost in the mail?

this is why a lot of sellers only use registered, and still someone else will complain about that too.
its almost always the post that is the problem in these cases, not your fault, and not the sellers fault.

Re: Can I get refunded for records lost in the mail?

to add my personal experience: can't say much about inter-european shipping, but when you have stuff shipped from the states and your parcel is lost you'll likely never see any refund from either USPS or you country's postal services. i had this happen twice or three times in my 10 years of ebay experience. maybe i was really unlucky in all these cases but every time USPS claimed they handed over to package to the swiss post and the swiss post claimed they never got it. so much for the value of the insurance. as for shipping within europe: you'll likely have to go through all sorts of hoops to get an insurance payment. it's like all insurances: they have no problem taking your money but when you have to fall back on to a claim they're miserly nitpickers.

in this case:
no insurance = at the mercy of the seller

Re: Can I get refunded for records lost in the mail?

^^ You're probably right.

Had in my (also about) ten years "carrere" as onlinebuyer only one time a bad experience when I sent money in a registered envelope to Argentina (which was asking for trouble anyway maybe). The envelope arrived at the seller's without money (70euro) at least according to the seller. After this I started a procedure by filling in a standard formular of the postal company (TNT) I sent my envelope with. It's a standard formular where you can fill in your complaint(s). And guess what. I got a refund of not all but 50euro's which I never expected! I was quite happy with that then. Better some refund than none.

i had it the other way around: once a big package to lovefingers (USA) was lost.

i did an request to german parcel.
two weeks later lovefingers told me that he finally got the records - but the postman just left the package in front of his door without any notice (and it was an insured package!).

again four weeks later i got a letter from german parcel:

"sorry the package is definitely lost" - and they refunded me 100 euros!!!!

Re: Can I get refunded for records lost in the mail?

I only choose registered/insured if I buy expensive records else I take the risk. Unregistered mail is still pretty reliable to my experience. Never got troubles (knock on wood!) with unregistered sending although it can be a hassle (like described above) if things go wrong. Choosing registered/insured is just too damn expensive to use for everything, especially with small orders it's not worth it (to me). I understand though if sellers only want to sent registered especially with large orders.

So to me:

Small orders: not registered/unsured, mostly o.k. and not worth the expenses, if it goes wrong (hardly ever) it's your loss

Large order: registered/insured, better be safe than sorry

Re: Can I get refunded for records lost in the mail?

A seller called Techboy. Good news though, the package returned to him. So I just paid the postage again (registered this time, hehe).

Re: Can I get refunded for records lost in the mail?

Ah, that's good news! In case it would still have been lost, I would advise you the same as Basic Aly. I had some problems with goods that didn't arrive and I ALWAYS got my money back in full. It's the seller who has to prove that he has sent the goods. Perhaps, if the seller is a nice chap, it's harsh to do so but in the end: it's your money...

Re: Can I get refunded for records lost in the mail?

I think I may have had a discogs casualty :-(, though it's only been a week and a half, I messaged the seller to see if he shipped it (because usually you receive notification when it's been shipped) and I never got a response.

booooo, I really wanted this record for a gig tomorrow too, that's why I ordered it 2 weeks ago from within the US.

Re: Can I get refunded for records lost in the mail?

No need to fret quite yet, as mentioned above, I finally got my records after two or three months!
