Re: il make u vomit

It's not the technology that bugs me - as long as the music is good, they can play it on pots and pans for all I care.
As Victor Robots has demonstrated, Hawtin has become a Habitat lounge lizard who thinks that (a) he owns Berlin's music scene, and (b) Minimal is the only music you should listen to.

It's a natural progression that if you hate Ritchie Hawtin, you hate anything connected to him, hence this Traktor bashing thread, and I can't blame you - regardless of the fact that I've been using Traktor for 8 years, and longer than Hawtin has. It hurts to be lumped with this wanker, because I use Traktor as a means to an end, i.e. having to carry/lose vinyl and doing things that can't be done on vinyl. Yes, vinyl is sonically superior to MP3, but would the crowd you're playing to give a shit about the delivery medium you're using? Thought not... Besides, using .wav files of ripped vinyl might shut up some of the purists, but who gives a fuck about purists unless you're looking to do a documentary?

On a final note, Native Instruments are the smug twats that Ratsnake makes them out to be. I visited their offices around 4 years ago under the impression that they take feedback from mere mortals like me, but as I found out, I needed a floppy fringe and a massive drug habit to be taken seriously!

Re: il make u vomit

Hawtin is a pain in the ass... Word!

I don't really care about the way he is mixing, I must say that Traktor and Final Scratch are pretty brilliant solutions, but the music he makes now and the way he mixes doesn't interest me.

As he said, his own goal is to use loops... Ok then... Use loops... Loops are great tools for producers and can bring great things, most electronica producers (Autechre, AFX and others) are using them in a clever way. Even Hawtin did with his famous DE9:Closer to the edit. But in a DJ's way, loops are just the WORST way to mix music... On stage, it's boring, and easy... Hawtin's mixes are just not mixes, it's just a bunch of loops, all synched, mixed together... Shit... Where is the emotion, where are the feelings, where is the groove ?

On my side, I still prefer vinyl, they may have glitches, they may have dust, they may break, they may jump, they may be heavy, BUT it's just a pleasure to use...

Still, for some parties, when I don't want to play the same music, I bring a small laptop with Final Scratch, and I must admit that it works really well and keeps most of the vinyl mix feeling. But I won't do that for real gigs...
