My wallet agrees
Picking this up on Monday.
Love how it says "Synthesizer Functiones" on the front panel! Are you actually gonna try it on a guitar?
I went to a flea and what did I see? This beast for 40 € and after a quick look, it seems to be working quite alright although it has seen a few jam sessions:
Brilliant as I'm just having a serious Chicago and Acid House period.
good catch for 10€
A friend passed me this - Dr. Boehm Digital Drums:
Some call it the German Linndrum but it doesn't have pitch control, only panning and volume...
Punchy? yes!
Gigantic ? definitely. It's bigger than my RS7000's
Useful? Not sure yet

I always kinda love the sound of the Bohm digidrums.
got myself a micro modular. the vocoder is lamer than I thought, with only working monophonic.
still quite a soundbeast that thing.

1. You should really check out all the various vocoder patches in the nord modular patch archives before jumping to any conclusions. Which vocoder are you comparing this too? Almost all software and VA vocoders are garbage compared to this.
2. The number of internal oscillators available to send to the vocoder depends on the patch complexity.
3. If you can't get enough internal oscillators to get a polyphonic carrier wave of your liking, you can always use an external poly synth as a carrier.
Well the vocoder takes 49% of the memory, meaning anything else you connect to it will be over 50% and turn it monophonic. I don't think it's that much of a problem for the "power" of the sound, but I have a background as key player so polyphony is something I immediately miss dearly. And it's my only synth at the moment.
For the rest I bet (hope ) you are right, the potential for huge sound shure is there! Haven't been really getting deep into the patching language yet.

I know the Micro has less DSP power than the Nord Modular but I still think you'd be able to run polyphonic oscillator voices into it with the rest of the 50%. I own a Nord Modular keyboard version myself, I'll check how much DSP is used up on the vocoder patches the next time I use it.
delay/Pitch shifter cuteness..
will try to find more of these Boss half-racks
for me the nord micro modular works exactly opposite: i think its a piece of crap and hate the other sounds, but the vocoder is the shit. used in all my tracks and live.. poly would be nice though, i agree..
and nice catch on the bohm, btw!

Yes, that's what I'm saying about the vocoder - that it kicks ass!
oooh Bohm... I have a really crappy set of samples of this.. Any chance you could hook me up a clean set through your nice compressor Mr Sneak?

Ive played around a bit with the Micro years ago and must say that I liked a lot of the sounds, also I was impressed about the sound quality.. The sound/character of the vocoder I dont like because its way to tight/90's for my taste, but yes its pretty powerful..

hey score - you know how there are 2 areas on the NM patch editor?
put the vocoder in the MONO area, put an oscillator in the POLY area.
you do not need a new vocoder module for each note you play!
you should easily get a few notes.
the only real downside here is the actual sound of the NM oscillators.. I never really got into those. much better to use something nice to drive it.

yeah man, I'll upload them and post them here

ummm no I haven't noticed that all...there is a MONO and a POLY area, where then??

thanks, I have the printed manual at home but it didn't cover this! Apparently it's a feature they added in a later version then the manual I own is. enjoying my vocoder with polyphonic qualities now!
This weekend:
* An MPC60II and an S-950 together for €500, both in very good shape with manuals etc. Sold the 950, kept the MPC
* Digitech Studio Quad V2 - pretty versatile fx unit for cheap!
MPC60mk ii does it have the 3.10 os? If it does = Supercool and cheap!
I really really liked the MPC60.. but its HUGE! If had unlimited space I would have kept it..
Super nice Score..
No, it doesn't - but it does have the memory expansion. I might get the 3.10 but that's like $200 + shipping. I'll have to think about it. Does 3.10 make the sequencer more straightforward?
I'm loving it so far, though.
