this dude has also done some cool tracks about being lonely and in love.
the cheesy vocals is a bit hard to cope with, but its very nice on the instrumental side with lots of 808 and FM-synths.
on the other hand, i guess the vocals fit pretty perfect in..

awesome thread
just heard on IFM :
Joyce Sims - all & all
Never really understood what "freestyle" is. Something inbetween electro & soul/funk/disco?
It's more like electro with more commercial 'pop' vocals. I believe the genre name and sound got coined by Tony Butler and his pseudonym 'Freestyle'. I'm told the genre is still (or again) quite popular in LA.
Also the way of production is typical and kind of dated to mid/late 80's.
The use of samplers is very noticable. That stuttering effect with snares for example.
And compared to older electro it is more melodic.
One of the best Freestyle songs for me:
Information Society - Running -> http://de.youtube.com/watch?v=SD0z75hqOso
Also very cool:
Wickett - I want you -> http://de.youtube.com/watch?v=xEV-10b9L68

Hm, for me, Freestyle "does the bridge" between Oldschool USA Electro/HipHop and Italo Disco. It's just a mixture between both, isn't it?
Here you also find some informations and examples for hearing:

The worst vocal ever! But the instrumental is great

Its like what Italians in leather Jackets from Queens listen to.
I think it was hip in the 80s that if you were such italian "geezer" you had to make your own Freestyle record for pure prestige, like having fancy clothes or big cars or something like that.
there are some really funny/awesome clips on youtube!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqdq9B_NZxw then check related vids, hours of fun
i really don;t think the term freestyle comes from tony butler's freestyle.. that sounds like some continental european rumour to me..
your right it's not and it's a hispanic thing it has nothing to do with italians either.
there's some pretty cool sites made by real freestyle freaks.

but freestyle is not entirely an eighties thing, well of course it started back then but the scene where at it's peak in the ninetees.

It must have been amazing clubbing in 80'ies Miami.
Just hanging out in neonlight bars, drinking turquoise drinks while listening to bass and freestyle all night long.
Shannon's appearance in Grafitti Rock is also pretty legendary, eventhough she's from N.Y.
Chris "Shannon Let the play" Barbossa did also this one from Monet - Give in to me http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QlzJ3YK-lVY The record has an awsome dub included.
Nuance - Loveride is one of my faves
Loads of Latin Rascals stuff too
hmmm learn new words every day... what about company B - Fascinated? if that's on the mark I do actually own more "freestyle" than italo records
Mikki - Love Emergency
ask Raoul, he's the king
